APOP x SFC Spring 2022 Lecture Event

This semester, Ohio State APOP and Slow Food Columbus will be hosting a one-time event (rather than the previous semester-long series we’ve had throughout the pandemic), titled “From around the World to Columbus: Bringing Home Tastes of Place,” which aims to bring together voices of the Columbus food scene in the name of sharing their impressions about what good, clean, and fair food means to them. This free event, which is open to the public, will take place online via Zoom on Tuesday, April 12th, from 6-7:15pm. Advance registration is required and may be completed at this link.

Our theme for the evening will revolve around (im)migration and the influences that our panelists’ personal and familial stories bring to their recognition, integration, and celebration of a hard-to-pin-down sense of food culture in the city they call home. In this virtual space, we will discuss what it means to our panelists to live and eat in this region, highlighting throughout our discussion the inherent community that revolves around "glocal" (the global + local) tastes.

Meet our panelists!

Charlotte Harden is the CEO of La Chatelaine French Bakery and Bistro. She is the daughter of Stan and Gigi and runs La Chatelaine's three locations with her brothers. La Chatelaine's been bringing the taste of France and textures of Parisian French bistros to central Ohio for 30+ years.

Top Chef Season 18 alum and President of Seriously Fun Avishar Barua is the executive chef and owner of the soon-to-open Joya's Café in Worthington. This "not your average" Bengali-American-Columbus-Career-Changing-Bio/Psych Major-turned Chef is a Columbus-born, first-generation American of parents from Bangladesh.

Yessica Quezada is the manager and co-owner of Cazuela's Mexican Cantina. She is originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco and has been working with her family for the past 15+ years to bring a taste of authenticity to residents of Columbus. Yessica was joined here by her cousin, Yazmin, whose father started the restaurant.
