Food Organizations Database Project

As the new kids on the block (more or less; we just celebrated our chapter’s first anniversary) in the Columbus food scene, we’ve been thinking a lot about how hard it is to get to know the neighbors—the other food-related groups in the area.  For those of you who don’t know us, we’re on a mission to improve the American food system—to make food better (better tasting and better for you), cleaner (less harmful to the environment), and fairer (more equitable for producers).  We’d like to get to know more groups who share those goals, because we keep hearing that you’re doing terrific work.  And as our sister chapter in Atlanta has demonstrated, there’s a lot of power to be had in partnership.

In fact, we’re hosting a wine and cheese reception following the Department of Agriculture’s Local Foods Roundtable this November 12th, which will bring together representatives of regional food-related organizations, groups, and charities.  The idea is to have a gathering at which we get to know one another and discuss our upcoming plans and projects.

As a preliminary step, though, we need to find out who’s who.  As far as we’ve been able to determine, there’s no comprehensive database of Ohio organizations whose mission is food-related.  We hope to use the power of the internet to “get viral” (in a good way!) and change that, for everyone’s benefit.

So, if you are the official representative for a food-related organization in Ohio, please take a moment to add yourself to the bottom row of the database, or just email us with your organization’s name, website, contact email and mission..  Once you’ve done so, your information should appear in the database at bottom, which is (obviously) free and available to all.

If you know of other organizations that belong in the database, please don’t hesitate to send an email to their representatives asking them to sign up as well!  Remember, the more comprehensive the database is, the more valuable it is to everyone.
